ReelMate – Privacy Policy

ReelMate respects your privacy. This policy explains what information the extension accesses, how it is used, and your choices.

Information We Access

• Selected text (movie titles): When you highlight a movie title and choose ReelMate → “Find Similar Movies” from the right‑click menu, the selected text is sent to The Movie Database (TMDB) over HTTPS to retrieve similar movie recommendations.
• Local storage: ReelMate may store lightweight data (e.g., last query, simple preferences, or cached results) in your browser’s chrome.storage to improve performance and user experience. This data does not leave your device.

What We Do Not Collect

• No personally identifiable information (e.g., name, email, address).
• No health, financial, or authentication data.
• No browsing history logs; ReelMate does not record which sites you visit.
• No behavioral tracking such as clicks, keystrokes, or scrolls.
• No advertising identifiers; we do not sell or rent data.

Purpose of Use

The selected title is used solely to fetch and display similar movie recommendations to you. Local storage is used only to enhance functionality and speed (e.g., caching your most recent query).

Data Retention

ReelMate maintains no server‑side storage. Any cached data and preferences remain locally in your browser and can be cleared at any time by removing the extension or clearing extension data.

Sharing

ReelMate shares the selected movie title with TMDB to retrieve recommendations. No other data is shared with third parties.

Security

All requests to TMDB are sent over HTTPS. The extension does not execute remote code, does not use eval, and does not load external scripts or WASM at runtime.

Your Choices

• You can remove ReelMate at any time from your browser to stop all access.
• You can clear local data via your browser’s extension data settings.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect product or legal changes. Material changes will update the “Last updated” date above.
